The Bain 4 showing is located just west of the Yellow property (092F 079) 6 kilometres southeast of Port Alberni.

The area is underlain by volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Devonian Duck Lake Formation, Sicker Group and by volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation, Vancouver Group. These have been intruded by Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite. The rocks comprise basaltic and andesitic tuffs, breccias and flows, argillite, siltstone and chert intruded by dioritic rocks.

Quartz carbonate veins and stringers with pyrite, chalcopyrite and minor arsenopyrite occur in the area. Pyrite is also disseminated in silicified andesitic and dioritic rocks.

In 1980, Western Mines Ltd. completed a detailed geochemical soil survey program in the area. This survey indicated a north-northwest trending zone anomalous in copper. In 1985, the Bain claims were staked by Ashworth Explorations and completed a program of rock sampling. In 1987, A.E.L. conducted programs of silt, soil, and rock geochemical surveys which resulted in samples containing anomalous gold values. One sample (R103), described as a mafic intrusive with malachite staining, initially assayed 0.39 gram per tonne gold, 0.266 per cent copper and 0.0082 per cent zinc. This sample was re-assayed for platinum, palladium and gold and assayed 1.8 grams per tonne gold with insignificant platinum and palladium values (Assessment Report 16631).

In 1989, Mingold Resources optioned the property and completed a more detailed geochemical survey. In 1993, Essex Resources completed a soil geochemical sampling survey on the area as the Foad 3 claim. In 2006, Bitterroot Resourcs explored the area as the Ariel claim and completed a program of geological mapping and rock geochemical sampling.
